I want to connect a DVD burner to my Dell Dimension E520 but the Cords are Different? - dell dimension e520 not recognizing new usb mouse or keyboard

As I mentioned in the title, the strings are different forms and does not exist to fit into the hand of my unit. I recognize that there is power, and what information (or whatever) ... but that's not fair. Is there some kind of converter I can buy at work? I have a Dell Dimension E520.
